2018 was an AMAZING year all around. Premiered a Music Documentary about Zoo Trippin’, Covering Lollapalooza, FlyOver Fest, Breakaway Fest AND Bunbury Festival; to Shooting Tour Visuals for Courtney Barnett and Going On Tour with Doc Robinson. I wanted to make a post to highlight a few of my favorite sessions and moments from 2018.
Touring with Doc Robinson for 2 weeks was definitely a True Highlight of Last Year. From Ohio to All Over Texas, California and Beyond, It was an Honor to Capture the Experience for Them. Every city we hit, it was another sold out show supporting Caamp. It was a real treat for me.
I made the video above with tour footage for Doc Robinson’s single Ignite. Ignite dropped while we were in San Diego and they thought it would be cool to use the tour footy I got so far to promote the tune. I still remember rolling into San Diego at 2am, editing some on the van but staying up til the sunrise editing this video in the air bnb so it’d be ready for the drop of the song. That’s one of my favorite things about touring, capturing on the go and quickly making promo content, usually also on the go. More on the Tour here.
Dominique Larue - Artist Portrait Session
I’ve Crafted Portraits for Dominique Larue a Few Times in the Past Couple Years. This Shoot was Also with Artist Metro. Dom wasn’t Sure Where She Wanted to Shoot but a Little Bit of Scouting and I Found a Block in a Downtown Neighborhood that was Perfect. I Brought Out a Few Lights and an Assistant and We Made Our Way Around the Whole Block, Using Different Styles and Lighting With Each Spot.
Courtney Barnett - Tour Visuals
I’ve been hired to photograph at The Newport before but getting hired to cover a Grammy Nominated International Bad Ass like CB was a HUGE highlight of 2018. Filming the Courtney Barnett set was fun but hectic to say the least. I hired a trusty second shooter cause The Newport is a whole lotta’ venue, especially when it’s sold out on a night like this. I chose a few optimal vantage points for us both to hit, which definetely paid off in the end.
Zoo Trippin’ - Sonny Black EP Cover
I was So Siked When Tony & Lynn From Zoo Trippin’ Asked Me to Create Images for Their Fall 2018 EP Release - Sonny Black. Captured These in a BackYard Using One Main Light. When You Understand How to Manipulate Light to Get What You Want - All Works Out Perfectly.
Lollapalooza August 2018
Lollapalooza was INSANE. Ninety plus degrees every day, multiple stages and many activities to get into. It was fun but a lot of work to get to certain stages to shoot, all the while trying to stay hydrated and not pass out. haha But no seriously, it was an insanely good time with the CD102.5 crew. Here are just a few of my favorite snaps from the festival.
Bunbury Festival June 2018
Bunbury was super super fun. Since it’s a smaller festival it was a lot easier to hop from stage to stage. Plus at Bunbury I got to capture a few of my favorite Columbus locals opening up for some legends. Check out my highlights below of Incubus, Post Malone, Young the Giant & more.
Nothin’ - Artist Portrait Session
I really dig shooting portraits and when Hilary said she wanted it at an abandoned food joint, I got excited.
Mister Moon - Band Portraits
Last but most definetely not least is my shoot with the Mister Moon boys. They hired me to cover their set at Rumba Cafe but also wanted some group shots beforehand. I used one speed light and the power of the sun for this alley shoot.
I could’ve included so much more from last year but this post would become like a short story. 2018 was a blast and 2019 so far seems like it will be too. I truly love my job, creating for others is what pushes me daily. Thanks for looking !
